Getting Your Lawn Ready for Spring

March 19, 2018

Delaware County PA weed control servicesDespite the late snowstorms we’ve endured this year, Spring is only a few days away. In just a few weeks, you’ll be ready for backyard barbecues and relaxing outdoors. Right now is a crucial time to invest in your lawn, otherwise you may have a less than satisfactory season.

Rake Your Lawn

This may seem like an odd thing to do outside of Fall, but after snow sits on your lawn it can create matted patches called snow mold. New grass will have difficulty growing through these patches, but raking them up should loosen up soil enough to promote new growth.

Pre-Emergent Application

We recommend a pre-emergent application before the end of March to prevent spring weed seeds and crabgrass seeds from germinating during those first few warm weather months. Crabgrass is extremely difficult to get rid of, and pre-emergent only works if applied before temperatures reach around 60 degrees. That being said, timing is important with this service.

Fertilization

Depending on your lawn schedule, Spring might be a good time for a light fertilization. The fertilizer would be applied following or at the same time as the pre-emergent weed control. These nutrients can help your lawn thrive throughout the dryer summer months.
