If you spot something off with your lawn, it can sometimes be difficult to tell if it’s caused by disease, lack of water, pests, or even pets. While we always recommend leaving your lawn’s health up to the professionals, we’ve put together a short guide to give you an idea of what different lawn diseases prone to our area in the summer may look like.
Brown Patch
- All summer disease
- On dew-covered grass, white fungus may form
- Patch will appear thinned out
- Tan and light brown lesions on individual blades of grass
Dollar Spot
- Early to late summer
- Dead turf the size of a silver dollar
- Mostly occurs in 80 degree, humid weather
- Yellow-green blotches turn white
Pythium Blight
- Develops in 85-95 degree weather
- Infestation is quicker in warmer weather
- Patches turn light brown or gray
- Infected areas may develop white cobwebb growth
Summer Patch
- Occurs mid-summer
- Common in heavy foot traffic areas
- Begins as 2-3 inch circular patches
- Grows to yellow/brown patches up to 12 inces
